about.
I’m KJ, a web developer at Scotland’s best design agency. I love photography, music, web development, cars and movies. I’m also a music promoter when I have the time and run a fairly large music website called UndergroundScene.co.uk. I’ve recently taken up photography as a serious hobby. You might notice that this site has taken a serious change in direction from tech blogging to photo blogging.
I’m a keen gamer especially with online games like Counterstrike: Source, Gears of War, Project Gotham Racing and various other when I have the time. I don’t get much time to go out as I used to but when I do I like going to the movies, bowling, keeping fit at the gym and generally going out and about when the weather permits.
I’ve been building websites for almost 10 years now, in various shapes and sizes and for a variety of clients and employers as well as for my various hobbies and interests. I build creative, accessible websites that people can use rather than just look at because it’s pretty, although that does help too. As well as building brand new websites from the ground up I’m also pretty handy at customising off-the-shelf software (vBulletin) and open source software (Wordpress).
I studied Applied Computing at the University of Dundee but the majority of skills in web development were gained through experimentation and real world experience. Don’t get me wrong, Uni was great and everything, but in todays world a Degree isn’t worth as much as one with a whole chunk of experience to go with it.
When I first started out in the creative industry I wasn’t really focused on one particular area but over the years I’ve come to realise that I excel in web design and development and so that is what I concentrate on most. If a project requires expertise in other disciplines then I have friends who are always willing to lend a hand, be it typographers, photographers, graphic designers or illustrators.
