Tentsmuir Forest and Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve are in north east Fife, Scotland. Covering some 50 square miles (130 km2), the forest was originally sand dunes and moorland before acquisition by the Forestry Commission in the 1920s. The forest consists mainly of Scots Pine and Corsican Pine. Read more on Wikipedia.

Olloclip Macro Lens

May 11, 2013

I’m shooting on a tight budget these days and have not had a macro lens for a long time. In fact I’ve never had a dedicated macro lens and that’s not going to change now. However I did manage to get a cheap lens adaptor for my phone called the Olloclip. It’s fantastic and comes [...]

The Scots Magazine

April 27, 2013

Recently I was given the opportunity to have one of my favourite images on the cover of one of the worlds oldest print magazines. My image of the actor Brian Cox, a fellow Dundonian, was chosen to grace the cover of the relaunched magazine complete in its new format. As well as a cover image [...]

Scanner Photography

March 26, 2013

The great thing about cheap scanners is they can scan anything and not just bits of paper or photographs. The easiest way to experiment is with some dead or dry flowers. Scanning on a flat bed gives the resulting image an extra sense of depth that you might not get otherwise through a camera due [...]

Creating a bootable USB drive for Ubuntu on OSX

March 24, 2013

If you’ve got an old laptop lying around not seeing any use or if you feel like a change then why not try using Ubuntu as your operating system? The great thing about Open Source software is the wealth of knowledge contributing to it on a daily basis. For photographers this can be a real [...]

Melantha Cassytha in Black and White

March 7, 2013

Further to my previous collection of images from the shoot with Melantha I wanted to post the black and white images also. Both collections though shot in the same location provide a different feel. I’ve been working a lot with black and white particularly in my mobile photography and have wanted to do a portrait [...]

Melantha Cassytha

February 22, 2013

February saw my first collaboration of the year with beautiful Melantha Cassytha. I’ve had a location in mind for a while and struggled to find someone that I felt would help me achieve the look and level of emotion that I had visualised. We were blessed with one day of fantastic weather and light and [...]

Guardian

February 19, 2013

I’ve been trying for a while to find someone to help me achieve the types of photographs I’m after, something with a little emotion and I sort of feel that I’ve achieved that with my latest shoot. Strobist info : 580EX2 1/8 power bare model right, head height, triggered with the Syl Arena ETTL cord, [...]

The Forth Rail Bridge from South Queensferry

February 4, 2013

This was the first time I’d been able to get down and photography in and around South Queensferry. I’ve always wanted to get close to this amazing architectural and engineering marvel. I think I might have picked possibly the coldest and windiest day to spend a few hours there. I could barely feel my face [...]

Broughty Ferry Castle

January 27, 2013

Went out with the intention of getting this during sunset, but the storm clouds moved in and so I resorted to black and white multi exposure. Clouds came out quite dramatic as well as some details I didn’t notice when I composed the image. I had some problems after reviewing the image a couple of [...]
