After last nights late night rant about some of the things that I really hate about Apple along came some of the most exciting news ever. They introduced the new generation of the iPod and boy am I excited, especially with the new iPod touch. I’ve been desperate for them to release a version of the player that uses flash memory; it’s something that i’ve always thought would make the player even better than it already is. What is more exciting is the new wifii ability of the player making it easy to surf the web but also download music from outlets through wifi directly to your iPod player. Essentially the new iPod touch does practically everything the iPhone does bar the phone calls, and lets face it the iPhone is pretty whack when it comes to communication despite it being one of the most eagerly awaited gadgets in the history of mankind… what a failure in my opinion.
They also announced the new nanos which are quite cute. I originally thought they looked short and stumpy and pretty ugly but shown in the flesh and in the hand they do look kinda cute. I like how the nano now has video functionality. After the announcement and the progression of the nano it was obvious that the top end iPods were going to go through a major transformation.

It’s the wifi functionality that is the killer aspect for me. I love the idea of being able to surf the web on something so small and compact plus the ability to view YouTube clips wherever you have access to a wireless network. It’s also something that Apple seems to have gotten right in the way they are obviously aiming to make music a lot more accessible. Being able to go to a Starbucks and seeing the music currently playing in the joint on your iPod with the option to buy that track there and then. I’m wondering how pissed off Microsoft are going to be about this if it shows the new iPod doing the whole wifi thing more efficiently and seamlessly than the Zune… but lets face it, it was to be expected.
We’re being told that the new iPod touch models will ship within the next 4 weeks… just in time for my trip to Florida

I’m also kind of upset at the way Apple seems to be treating some of it’s customer. Already they have announced price drops of the iPhone. i know a few people who are going to be fairly pissed of at that news given the amount of effort they went to in getting one of them sent to the UK.
