My week
Thursday, July 19th, 2007This week has been a tough week. It’s been pretty much heavy duty PHP, Actionscript 2 and 3 programming and a lot of hacking together of AMFPHP, Flash, CodeIgniter and bbPress. I’ve learnt a lot but I’m feeling pretty tired, especially since I’ve been doing some work at home too. A large part of the reason I’ve been taking my work home with me is because I’m actually genuinely interested in what I’m doing and some of the work I’ve been working on is exciting me muchly.
The strange thing is I’m still living like a bachelour, I’ve got around 2 months before my wife moves in to the city, and I come home from work and put on Sky News, sit down with a milkshake and the first thing I do is turn on the laptop. Pretty bad I know. I’ve tried to do less computer based work when I’m in the house by mixing it up with other things. For example I’ve become quite a fan of the latest series of Big Brother UK and right now, believe it or not, I’m watching Victoria Beckham: Coming to America. What is happening to me? Something tells me this is not normal. Right now she’s throwing the first ball at a baseball game in the States. There is actually something quite endearing about her, I feel.
As for Big Brother, I don’t feel too bad about watching it every night especially since I have people to discuss it with during the day. I’m approaching the age of 30, well, in a few years. Could this have something to do with it? I seem to enjoy watching people and the world go by in the evenings from the front window, sometimes at night with a cup of tea and the lights dimmed when there is a bit of excitement across the road outside the local pub. Apparently they used that pub to film a few scenes for a Scottish indie movie about gangs or something. It’s definately rough looking. Right now it’s quite loud outside, sometime I wish they’d just shut the fkcu up. I don’t understand why people need to go out on a weekday till the small hours getting drunk and pissing their wages(?) up against a wall. But not only that, but their insistance on walking around the streets like extras from Dawn of the Dead making strange loud noises and kicking doors.
I’ve just switched channels and there seems to be some sort of explosion in New York city, somewhere in Manhattan it looks like. They are saying that there is a chance that a building could collapse and from the pictures it does look pretty serious. They are however saying that it is not considered to be a terrorist act. There seems to be huge… what the fuck, a street sweeper at this time of the night?! It’s almost 1am! Anyway, there seems to be a huge geyser effect with what looks like either water or high pressure gas being released from the road into the air, there is rubble everywhere…
I’m also having issues getting into a regular schedule with regards to going to the gym. I’ve been going at least 3 times a week but I’d like to go more. Especially since I want to spend at least one session doing solid cardio work. I have however noticed an increase in the size of my arms and my energy levels. Yesterday I walked home from work, at least a 2 mile walk I’d say. Doesn’t sound like much and it wasn’t really. I felt quite good when I got home. Listening to my music player helped past the time.
