Flash on the Beach

Well today was a long day. We left Glasgow around 11.20 am and the train journey itself lasted around 8 hours. We arrived in London just after 7.30 and we got our connection to Brighton just before 8. Since we didn’t actually get into Brighton till late we missed all the Sunday workshops but I guess it’s not a huge loss to be honest, as long as we get to see the main section of the conference which is the next three days through wednesday. The evening was spent getting to know the local area. I met a couple of guys from Glasgow based Dog Digital and we went out for a meal at a local italian Pizza joint; very nice indeed.

I have to say though that the hotel we are staying in is a bit of a dump. They charge for internet access which sucks so I’m hoping to find a decent cafe somewhere in Brighton that’ll give me free net access to at least post my blog entries.

I’m pretty tired. I mean, we spent so long on the train when the flight would have taken us less than two hours and an extra hour on a train from London to Brighton saving us a good 5 of so hours in total, but to be honest the main reason we got a train down was to try and keep as green as possible. I don’t really think we could have justified flying down if we were going to miss the Sunday workshops anyway.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow. There are a few talks that I want to go to but unfortunately a couple of them clash as there are three parallel tracks going on for the day and the next two also for that matter; so I’m going to have to choose my talks carefully. I think that along with the other guys we could pretty much cover most of the really interesting stuff and just exchange notes at the end of the day. Of course each of the days ends with a party session so that’ll be a good way to finish each day off. I’m also looking forward to meeting some of the influential people. I’ve already seen a few of them but no one has introduced me to any of them. It definately feels as though most of the people here already know each other. Being new to AS3 development I’m still learning a lot and I’ve got a long ways to catch up, not just development wise but community wise too. I’m going to take it upon myself to introduce myself to a few people tomorrow, after all I’ve got nothing to loose really and it’d be good to make some new contacts.
